Food poisoning: E.coli strawberry outbreak in Oregon
This has really flown under the radar except maybe in Oregon.
According to Food Safety News, “one person in Oregon has been killed and at least nine others — and possibly as many as 16 — have been sickened in an outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 linked to fresh strawberries from a farm in Newberg.”
Of the confirmed cases, four have been hospitalized, and one elderly woman in Washington County died from kidney failure associated with E. coli O157:H7 infection. The incubation period for E.coli is 2 to 7 days.
Although the strawberry season is gone and these particular strawberries are no longer on the market, they can still pose a problem to people who froze them or made uncooked jam.
Is it just me or has there been more food safety, food poisoning, and food recalls this year?
