10 Best Foods – Eating for Your Health (Low Glycemic Foods)
1 Comment Published by Karyn Zoldan March 19th, 2008 in Food for Thought, Healthy Lifestyle, Healthy Lifestyle Choices. The last post talked about the worst foods but I thought we should look at the best foods.
The Mayo Clinic came up with their own healthy list.
Let’s take a look:
Almonds, apples, blueberries, broccoli, red beans, salmon, spinach, sweet potatoes, vegetable juice, and wheat germ.
At first glance — all are low glycemic which means they don’t spike blood sugar and offer your blood stream a sustained feeling of fullness rather than a surge to eat more and more. Sugar and white flour are the worst culprits.
All are a good source of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, phytonutrients, fiber, and everything else we’ve been hearing about for years.
All our readily available — no specialty stores needed.
My one comment would be to buy the vegetable juice with low sodium or salt free because that juice has a lot of sodium.
Hopefully spinach won’t be recalled any time soon again. Even if you buy your spinach in a bag and it’s been washed, I recommend washing it again.
For years eating an apple a day as been the adage. Someone knew what they were talking about. I think the secret is the pectin.
Fortunately, I like everything on that list.
Salmon is disappearing; stock up with canned wild salmon now.
