Food Safety: Abused Cows Prodded into the Food Supply
Published by Karyn Zoldan January 30th, 2008 in Food Safety, Food for Thought, Political Food Issues. In what seems to be a gruesome event captured on a secret video, downed and disabled cows are tortured as a way to get them to pass inspection so they can be slaughtered for the food supply.
According to the Humane Society, downed and disabled cows should not go into the food supply because of a greater occurence of salmonella and e.coli.
The California slaughterhouse had a multi-million dollar contract with the Department of Agriculture to provide meat products to the school lunch program, needy food programs, and the elderly.
The FDA said they are checking into the allegations.
