An Eco Friendly Look at Our Endangered Fish Species
Published by Cindy August 20th, 2007 in Food for Thought, Opinions, Political Food Issues.Love eating fish? So do I. But perhaps we need to rethink which fish species we order next time we dine out. Some eco-friendly chefs are making informed decisions to guide their menu choices. Amazingly, not based on the almighty dollar.
I thought this ScienCentral video provided an insightful look at whether we’re overfishing select fish species, causing them to become endangered, and what we can do about it.
Thanks for making me more aware.
Good topic.
Here’s a list of fish to avoid:
Chilean seabass
Atlantic cod
King crab (imported)
Atlantic sole and flounder
groupers
Atlantic halibut
monkfish
orange roughy
rockfish
Atlantic farmed salmon
shark
red snapper
imported swordfish
bluefin tuna
I’ll post about the best choices and good alternatives later.
