Veggie Booty Recall - First 4 ingredients are not vegetables
Published by Karyn Zoldan June 29th, 2007 in Junk Food, Opinions, Snacks.June 28–The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) recalled a popular snack food called Veggie Booty. The reason for the food recall is salmonella in a bunch of states.
The odd thing about Veggie Booty is that the ingredients are: corn meal, rice, organic soy flour, and/or sunflower oil.
Then we get to the veggies — spinach, kale, cabbage, carrots, broccoli
And a few finishing touches — calcium carbonate, vitamin C, vitamin A, parsley and sea salt
And this is considered a health food. Why not just eat a damn carrot instead?
Trader Joe’s sells Veggie Booty. The odd thing is that I have tried Veggie Booty in the past and although there were light green and orange crispy strips in the bag, I couldn’t decipher among the carrot or spinach or broccoli flavors.
I can see calling a potato chip, a potato chip because potatoes are the first ingredients but Veggie Booty should be renamed to puffed grains imitating veggies.
