The world has gone to the dogs and I’d say that’s a good thing. Dogs give us unconditional love like no other species. Studies have shown that people who have dogs live longer, have a more positive outlook on life, and have lower blood pressure.

The dog business is frequently a lucrative one. About a year ago, I stopped by Paws & Claws Boutique and Bakery in Tucson and couldn’t resist buying some baked goods for my greyhounds, then Painter and Lily. I read the ingredients and they were all human-grade. On the drive home, the aroma permeated the car and I admit that I took a bite out of one of the cookies. It was delicious!

Here are some other bakeries across the country that I thought had a unique bent: The Barkery in Tewksbury, MA holds birthday paw-ties and holy muttrimonies. That would be fun to see.

Another fun bakery in Washington D.C. is the Doggie Style Dog Bakery which even makes ice cream with digestive enzymes for dogs.  Then there’s the Three Dog Bakery headquartered in Kansas City, MO and with franchises in Southern California and parts of the Midwest and Florida.

You don’t need a doggie bakery to throw your own dog birthday party. Painter had a few birthday parties in his life time. I would invite dogs and their owners. The owners would enjoy breakfast. The dogs would bob for hot dogs and do the T.R.E.A.T. walk. We would open presents (Painter was a master at opening his own presents.) Then everyone would leave with “doggie bags”. Sometimes I made pupcakes for the dogs (Jiffy cornbread mix with added meat baby food). 

A good time was had by all.
