Apple sauce is the perfect substitute for oil! It provides the same level of moisture and does not sit as heavy on the stomach. I also think it adds an earthy flavor that I personally really enjoy. Great recipe!

Yes Karyn. If you need a half cup oil, use a half cup applesauce. Also, the eggs can be found at any Acme or Giant Eagle (I don't know what you have located near you) with all the baking and shortening ingredients. They should just be called powdered egg whites and come in a container about the size of a cylinder of fish food. They last forever and work great in recipies!

Cara,
Thanks for the healthy tips.

I'm just curious how you substitute the applesauce. If a recipe calls for 1/2 cup of oil, do I substitute with a half cup of applesauce?

I like the natural applesauce without sugar. Would that work?

I have never heard of powdered egg whites. In what section of the store are they? I have used liquid egg whites that you can buy but they have a shorter shelf life (must be kept refrigerated).

Thanks for your tips. I'm impressed by your knowledge.
