Global Food: Fattoush Salad
Published by Karyn Zoldan April 21st, 2007 in Food for Thought. The sound of the word “fattoush” makes me think of a descriptive part of my anatomy and it isn’t pretty.
That aside, I’ve enjoyed two Fattoush salads and now that I know its joys, will order again.
The most recent Fattoush salad was at Ali Baba’s in Tucson. The bowl was filled with delicious lettuces, olives, peppers, tomatoes, and red onion topped with crispy pita bread and a slightly pungent vinaigrette dressing.
The first time I had a Fattoush salad, the crispy pita bread was replaced with Ritz crackers that were breaded and sauteed or so I think. It made for an unusual crouton replacement.
Fattoush is a Lebanese bread salad.
