What’s for Dinner? Simply Dinners
Published by Karyn Zoldan March 13th, 2007 in Food for Thought. If you’re like most people as you drive home from work, your thoughts turn to dinner and you wonder what is in your refrigerator — in other words — what’s for dinner?
A new trend (or possible fad) is fix-and-freeze dinners also known as meal assembly stores. The concept is popular but whether or not the business can turn a profit for owners has yet to be seen especially in areas where real estate square footage can consume the profits.
I recently tried a local (vs. franchise) meal assembly concept called Simply Dinners. I think it’s a worthwhile endeavor. However, in Tucson, during the summer, there’s no way that I’m turning on my oven so unless all my meals were prepared on the stovetop, the concept is more seasonal at least for me.
The concept begins by going online and choosing your recipes than showing up to make them. It’s all inclusive except everything is bagged and boxed and frozen for later cooking or baking or roasting or grilling.
Here’s a list of meal assembly stores to find one in your neck of the woods.
