Dinner with Francis Ford Coppola
Published by Karyn Zoldan February 15th, 2007 in California Wines, Food on Film.Unless you’re Diane Keaton or Al Pacino, it’s unlikely that you’ll be having dinner with Francis Ford Coppola or his daughter Sofia Coppola any time soon.
But if you live or are vacationing in any of the cities and states where there’s a Fleming’s Steak House, you could be part of the All Coppola Wine Dinner with wines made by the award-winning director himself.
Think about the long red carpet, gorgeous designer dresses, sumptuous after parties hobnobbing with the famous and infamous, and of course, the coveted statuettes. Okay, it’s not quite going to happen quite like that but at this special wine dinner, you can still celebrate your inner celebrity on Tuesday, February 20th at 6:30 p.m.
This dazzling star-filled night will offer an impressive five-course menu paired with selections from the Coppola wine collection. With a growing number of celebrity winemakers and vineyards, this Academy Awards inspired dinner will have all the glitz and glamour, so dress to impress.
The excitement begins outside the restaurant, with a red carpet to welcome patrons. During the dinner, The Godfather will be playing as a backdrop and you will be challenged with movie trivia questions. And unlike the real world, every guest will walk away with an award - a scrumptious dark chocolate statuette.
The appetizers or “Previews” begin with smoked salmon tartare with a decadent caper mustard sauce and blue cheese and caramelized onion flat bread, both paired with SOFIA, Blanc de Blancs California, 2005.
The “Opening Scene” of lobster bisque will be perfectly partnered with SOFIA, Rose Pinot Noir Carneros, 2005.
The “Build-up” comes in the form of poached seabass and scallop Napolean with capers, sun-dried tomatoes and crispy wontons, served with FRANCIS FORD COPPOLA DIRECTOR’S CUT, Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast, 2005.
For the fourth course, the “Resolution,” guests will enjoy a filet Oscar, topped with jumbo lump crab and served over herbed grilled asparagus with truffle potato beignets. FRANCIS FORD COPPOLA DIAMOND COLLECTION, Claret California Black Label, 2004 will be poured for this outstanding pairing.
For the “Credits,” the meal is topped off with a bittersweet dark chocolate statuette on a chocolate cheesecake pedestal, paired with a fine FONSECA, Premium Reserve Porto Bin no. 27 Portugal NV.
What, no fava beans?
The cost is $85/person, plus tax and gratuity.
