Valentines Day Hearts
Published by Karyn Zoldan February 8th, 2007 in Desserts, Retro, Valentines Day.I was listening to NPR and the guest whose name I don’t recall said that she eschewed chocolate for Valentine’s Day because it made her think about all those dreadful Whitman Sampler boxes that had so-so chocolate and you never knew what to do with them afterward.
She said that Valentines Day was about sharing really good food with someone you love and that she was making a Meyer lemon panna cotta for the occasion.
I once used one a heart box as a hat for a Halloween costume. When I was younger, thinner, and leggier — I was a cigarette girl on Halloween.

I agree! Whitman Sampler boxes of chocolate are the worst. In my opinion, they are given by people who have no clue what quality chocolate really tastes like. They are simply making a last minute purchase by picking up a box in the grocery check-out line so they don’t arrive empty handed.
In our neck of the woods, we have Esther Price candy which is wonderful. I personally prefer dark chocolate and was pleasantly surprised to find that they carry dark chocolate covered coffee beans. Love, love, love it.
