Let’s face it – American’s love their sandwiches. Call them what you will – clubs, gyros, melts, muffalettas, wraps, or subs. I thought it interesting that Americans love of sandwiches created a market worth more than $121 billion in 2005, according to Sandwiches in the U.S.: Foodservice and Retail Market and Trends, the latest market research from Packaged Facts. As for me, I for one would love to visit Tiny’s Giant Sandwich Shop (lower east side of New York) which sounds like a happy misnomer - and partake of this one here. That sandwich looks so good I almost can taste it thru the monitor. There oughta be a law against that.
A zillion years ago, I used to love the hamburger at the Oar House in Santa Monica. It was huge and you had to cut it in half to fit it in your mouth and believe me — I have a big mouth.
It was juicy and came with mayo, mustard, shredded lettuce, a tomato that tasted like a tomato, on a soft bun. And it back then it probably cost 99 cents and with a slice of cheese $1.29. It was a real deal and came with pretty good fries.
Of course, at the Oar House or actually the restaurant side was called Buffalo Chips (you had to have a sense of humor) and wash it all down with a few watery beers or back then, my drink of choice was a Harvey Wallbanger which I kind of forget what that is now — I think vodka, orange juice, and maybe Galliano liqueur which was sharp in taste and yellow in color but somehow complemented the orange juice and gave it a real bite.
How did I go from sandwiches to Harvey Wallbangers? Do people still drink Harvey Wallbangers?
