Validate Your Healthy Lifestyle Food Choices
Published by Mary Johnson October 31st, 2006 in Healthy Lifestyle Choices, Memories. My mother died of a heart attack when she was 49 and naturally, the question of ”Will I make it past age 49?” has been on my mind literally every day since then.
Being a proactive person, I used this as a wake-up call to evaluate my food and lifestyle choices to reduce my risk.
I view testing as an important tool to validate whether I am on the right track. The test results give me a ”kick in the butt” to make the incremental tweaks to get back on course.
That is why I was really interested in a new website I found that calculates your long-term risk for developing a number of serious health problems, such as heart disease and cancer.
What makes this site different is that it tells you what you need to actually do to further improve your chances of not getting that disease.
The website is www.YourDiseaseRisk.com.
I was happy to find that my risk for getting heart disease is very low. But there were actually 3 things that it suggested that I improve upon. They were:
1. Eat more fish
2. Take vitamin E
3. Decrease my total cholesterol even further
Sounds reasonable. I can do this.
It has been 30 years now and this month I actually reached and passed the exact age that my mother was when she died. Yes I counted the days.
This milestone was a very powerful, retrospective time for me and something I will never forget. I may not have reached it had I not made changes in my life.
I urge you to take the 10 minues to test yourself and implement some of the improvements that they suggest. Be strong. Do it today. You can do it - and it will make a difference.
