Time flies. Blanco Tacos + Tequila has perched on the edge of La Encantada since 2007, all that time serving modern Mexican fare with a dynamic view of the twinkling valley below or if you might be fortunate to catch a slice of Tucson’s fetching sunsets, and for these nano nippy evenings, comforting heaters nearby.
Like any restaurant worth its shaker of salt, the seasonal menu changes to keep us coming back for favorites as well as enticing a variety of flavors for those among us whose palates crave something different.
What is new are the grilled avocado tacos and if you forgo the sprinkling of queso, this dish fits into your plant-based eating while carnivores who rhapsodize about avos recommend the dish too. Think about it – who thought of grilling avocados into smoky wonderfulness? Sam Fox and Nicholas Palomino-Paco, executive chef.
Another new menu item is the crispy beef tacos (aka made with hard taco shells) which are near impossible to find locally but still much loved by people who took their first taco tastes (in the Midwest and California) with the crunchy shells, served with a bowl of creamy black beans or pinto beans.
Bowls have also been added so you can switch your burrito in a bowl on a mound of buttery rice vs. flour tortilla.
My favorite taste of the night was the perfectly grilled mahi fajita plated with plenty of caramelized onions and peppers, just the way I like them.
No worries, most of your favorites are standing by as well as a full bar with carefully crafted cocktails and a large assortment of beers and some wines.
Blanco is open from daily at 2905 E. Skyline Drive, Tucson
