What an awesome event. Circle of Food was there sampling and I have to admit I also voted for this drink as my first choice. My second choice was from Contigo as it smelled like the desert (in a good way). All the cocktails represented Tucson well.
Tucson Feeds Paris Cocktail Challenge presented six outstanding choices for the guests at the event at the Carriage House who sampled all offerings and were asked to select their top three favorites.
All six entries were incredibly well executed – each finalist worked to imbue their creations with the flavors of Tucson. The winning cocktail was The Ahumado Fresca created by Stephanie Kingman and Kris Carr, both bartenders at The Parish. Made with Sotol Reposado, Tamarind Syrup, Mesquite Smoked Local Honey and Lime Juice, the duo created a special cocktail that contained the ideal blend of southwest flavors.
Representing Tucson’s City of Gastronomy, Chef Janos Wilder will serve the Ahumada Fresca at a special UNESCO event in Paris, on June 28th. “This is a cocktail they will love in Paris, said Wilder. I am proud to take it along with me”.
Wilder will also serve a variety of bocaditos “little bites” that will include ingredients that have been grown in the Tucson region for more than 4,000 years, like cholla buds, saguaro blossom syrup, and prickly pear juice. In addition to the honor of having their cocktail served at such a prestigious event, the winners of tonight’s challenge were awarded a cash prize of $500.
