Single Craft Beer Raises $10,000 for Women’s Shelters in Arizona, Tucson’s Wings for Women to receive $3,500
Tucson, AZ (February 14, 2017) – In partnership with a statewide collective of women brewers who convened in Tucson last month to help craft a special beer to raise funds for charity, Barrio Brewing Company today announced that subsequent sales of its commemorative State Bird Double IPA have raised $10,000 for women’s shelters in Tucson, Phoenix, Flagstaff, and Prescott.
The State Bird reached its fundraising goal of $10,000 in just five days after it was distributed by Hensley Beverage Company, which donated their services for the fundraising effort, to more than 130 bars, restaurants, and breweries across Arizona.
“This was a true collaboration that came straight from the heart of the Arizona craft beer community,” said Dennis Arnold of Barrio Brewing Company. “It was an honor to work with our state’s women brewers here at Barrio for this historic occasion, and how encouraging it is to see this hard work and passion translate into such strong support for a cause that we all care deeply about,” he said.
Playing on the “Five Cs” theme of the Arizona economy, which include cotton, cattle, citrus, copper, and climate, the State Bird was crafted from Citra, Cascade, Centennial, Cluster, and Columbus hops. It hit 7.5 percent on the ABV scale which made it an early favorite of those who prefer sipping their suds on Imperial IPA turf.
Tucson’s Wings for Women, which provides a safe environment for homeless and impoverished women and children, will receive $3,500 from Barrio Brewing Company as a result of the fundraising effort. The balance of the total amount raised will be donated by Barrio to the Sojourner Center in Phoenix, the Northland Family Help Center in Flagstaff, and the Prescott Area Women’s Shelter in Prescott.
“While craft beer may not solve all of the world’s problems, it definitely plays a powerful role in bringing people together to do great things,” said Arnold. “This is what we’ve done for 25 years and why we love doing it, and I guess you can call that craft for a cause.”
