Heirloom Farmers Markets is proud to announce its signature Viva La Local Food Festival. This event is a Tucson favorite and proceeds benefit Heirloom Farmers Markets’ initiatives, a 501(c)(3) non-profit.
This event partners with the Living Streets Alliance’s Cyclovia Tucson. Together Tucson Tandem is a weekend of fun celebrating local food and five miles of car-free city streets.
Viva La Local happens on Halloween day, October 31, from 9 AM -5 PM. Cyclovia Tucson is November 1, from 10 AM -3 PM, along the Midtown route featuring 4th Ave and Fontana Bike Blvd. Tucson Tandem is proudly presented by Banner University Medical Center.
Viva La Local showcases more than 20 of Tucson’s top restaurants, 60+ farmers market vendors, local beer and wine, and live music on the East Field at Rillito Park. The event takes place on October 31. Admission is $6, and kids under age 12 enter free.
Festival goers can shop Baja Arizona’s finest farmers market vendors and conveniently store their fresh purchases at the complimentary Veggie Valet before exploring the mecca of restaurants. There will also be a complimentary bike valet hosted by Living Streets Alliance to add to the collaborative spirit of Tucson Tandem.
All food plates, wines, and beers are priced at $5 each; the event encourages attendees to sample and share a spectrum of culinary delights while enjoying a festive atmosphere.
Participating restaurants include BBQ Rush, Caridad Community Kitchen, D’s Island Grill, Gourmet Girls Gluten Free Bakery Bistro, Primo-JW Marriott Starr Pass, Loews Ventana Canyon Resort, Mexico in Season/Tauna Products, Pasco, Pastiche, Pin-Up Pastries, Prep & Pastry, Renee’s Organic Oven, Rod’s KC BBQ, Tazzina di Gelato, Yogi’s Indian Café, Veg In a Box and Zona 78.
Local breweries include Barrio Brewing Co, Borderlands Brewing Co, Dragoon Brewing Co, and Sentinel Peak Brewing Co, with wine covered by Arizona Stronghold.
There will be plenty of fun for the whole family including interactive music playtime with Mr. Nature’s Music Garden from 10-11 AM, a costume party & kids activities with the Tucson Children’s Museum, and a parent’s ‘rest stop’ hosted by the Lactation Consultants of Southern Arizona IBCLC Professional Group.
Local music is represented by the Tucson Jazz Institute, Southbound Pilot, 8 Minutes to Burn and The Bennu. Nonprofit organizations that are committed to building a strong local food economy will also be on hand to gain awareness for their causes.
