Internationally acclaimed Maître Fromager (cheese authority), Max McCalman, will lead a special guided multi-course cheese and wine tasting event at Blu A Wine & Cheese Stop in Tucson on Sunday, March 8, 2015 from 3 to 5 PM. In addition to sharing his expertise on the world’s finest cheeses and wines for pairing, McCalman will also sign copies of his most recent book, Max McCalman’s Wine & Cheese Pairing Swatchbook: 50 Pairings to Delight Your Palate.

McCalman is the author of Cheese: A Connoisseur’s Guide to the World’s Best, which won the James Beard Award in 2006. His book Mastering Cheese won Best Cheese Book in the World at the 2010 Gourmand Cookbook Awards in Paris.

Tana Fryer, cheesemonger and owner of Blu A Wine & Cheese Stop in Tucson, said McCalman’s visit is directly related to Tucson’s growing reputation as a place to eat great food. “Max is a cheese genius,” Fryer said. “He is the driving force behind the Certification Committee of the American Cheese Society and helped develop the professional certification exam for cheesemongers, now in its third year. It is exciting to be able to bring someone of his caliber to Tucson.”

“I’m thrilled about what’s happening here,” said Fryer. Arizona wines are getting great national exposure. Last summer, southern Arizona cheesemaker, Alethea Swift, owner of Fiore di Capra, won second place in her category at the American Cheese Society conference and Tucson’s Edible Baja Arizona is now the second largest Edible magazine in the country, outside of New York City. she added, “ I am proud to bring Max here.”
