Hey Tucson, lots of food happenings this weekend:
The Mighty Snip Dog
For the entire month of November when you eat at Lovin’ Spoonfuls and order “the mighty snip dog,” $1 dollar from every “dog” will be donated to SNIP, the Spay and Neuter Intervention Project. The vegan Lovin’ Spoonfuls is located 2990 N. Campbell Ave. The “dog” is made from soy and comes with battered onion rings, house made BBQ sauce, on a bun served with a side of coleslaw or potato salad for $7.50. On Nov. 12, come to dinner at 6 PM and meet some No Kill Pima County advocates and other animal lovers.
The Sahuarita Pecan Festival is a Southern Arizona tradition. With delicious foods from across the Santa Cruz River Valley and lots of great activities, it’s an event for the whole family on Nov. 8 from 9 AM to 5 PM. You can expect farm demos, food, pecan pie!, live music, a kids area, marketplace and orchard run.
This is an annual event at Kingfisher (Nov. 8) where you can stuff your face with a bounty of oysters from 10 AM to 2 PM. Guests can enjoy over a dozen different varieties of oysters on the half shell from regions including the Pacific, Pacific Northwest, Gulf, the mid-and north Atlantic. Varieties of oysters have been expanded this year to include some from the East Coast. In addition to oysters on the half shell, other specials include oyster stew, baked oysters and clam chowder.
Issue Number Nine of Edible Baja Arizona (November/December) will be at Tohono Chul Park Nov 8 from 1 to 4 PM. Free admission to the Park too. Enjoy live music, a hosted bar with prickly pear margaritas and local beers + Guatemalan Crafts Fair and a Tai Chi demonstration.
On Saturday, November 8 Gio Taco will be providing free face paintings from 2 to 4 PM on the Gio Taco patio. On Sunday November 9, free face paintings happens again from 2 to 6 PM, plus they’ll have a DJ from 9 PM to midnight and will stay open until midnight for those out celebrating after the All Souls Parade.
Leaps for Lives
This list wouldn’t be complete without mentioning a fundraiser for Southern Arizona Greyhound Adoption where the DanceLoft and Dancers Anonymous will showcase a high energy performance to benefit greyhound adoption. It all happens Nov 8 from 6 to 8 PM at the DeMeester Concert area in Reid Park. The event is picnic style so bring a chair or blanket and yes, there’s a food connection — food trucks will be on hand. You can buy tickets here or at the event.
