The M-word – consumers rights – food labeling – GMOs – food safety
An estimated 80% of processed foods contain genetically modified ingredients. But Americans have been denied our basic right to know what we’re eating. It’s time to join more than 40 other countries and require labeling of GMO foods.

Last year a Canadian study discovered that insecticide toxins from genetically engineered (GMO) crops were found in the blood of 93% of blood samples taken from pregnant women and 80% umbilical cords tested. Monsanto has maintained that these toxins in their crops would never affect the food supply or affect humans, but can we trust them? Today 88% of corn and 94% of soybeans are genetically engineered. How could this be affecting you and your family?
For the past 20 years, Americans have been denied the basic right to know what’s in our food, despite the fact that nearly 50 countries around the world already require labeling of genetically engineered food.
Unlike America, countries such as Russia and China label GMOs, allowing their citizens the fundamental right to know what they’re eating! Why not the U.S.? Because giant biotech and seed companies like Monsanto have written the rules for our governmental regulatory agencies and paid billions in lobbying, PR and campaign donations over the past two decades.
Right now we have 48 hours left to tell President Obama and the FDA that it’s time to label genetically engineered foods on a legal petition filed with the FDA by the Just Label It coalition. Tomorrow is the deadline to make comment, please add your voice today!

In the past year the Obama administration has approved 7 more GMO crops and recently announced that they will be shortening the approval time for these new lab created organisms that appear unlabeled in an estimated 80% of the processed food in our grocery stores.
During this same time, news of the failure of Monsanto’s GMO products continues to be exposed in the mainstream media.
Alarmingly, last year a Canadian study discovered that BT toxins were found in the blood of 93% of blood samples taken from pregnant women and 80% umbilical cords tested. Monsanto maintained that these toxins in their crops would never affect the food supply or affect humans, but can we trust them?
And right now, the FDA is considering approving a GMO salmon that has been genetically engineered to grow twice as fast as wild salmon! Not only do independent scientists raise concerns about the problems this lab-engineered organism could wreck on the environment if it escapes into the wild, but also about the unknown potential harm to human health that this untested creature could unleash on unsuspecting consumers.
Clearly, the Obama administration has demonstrated that it is in favor of rapidly approving new GMOs, but it’s time that President Obama live up to his promise to label GMOs “because Americans have a right to know what they’re buying“!
Thanks for participating in food democracy,
