Tucson Eats & Drinks  – taco festival, brunch, dining,  cocktails, etc.

Tis the season for guests visiting and dining out is always on the menu.

My syn twister visiting from L.A. and I had fabulous dinners at Downtown Kitchen & Cocktails and Maynards Market & Kitchen.

We both went nuts for the calamari at Downtown. She wanted to lick the plate!

Of course I had to introduce her to the Sonoran hot dog at El Guero Canelo on South 12th Avenue and of course we ordered too much food. We brought some caramelos home which I deconstructed and used to make a Sonoran scrambled egg dish the next day. Tasty.

In Bisbee we ate lunch at the Copper Queen Hotel which was a tad too decor fussy for my tastes but shared a satisfying sandwich then later sipped indulgent Mexican hot chocolates at the Bisbee Coffee Company (they also roast their own beans).

Now for food & restaurant & cocktails news:

Save the date! Tucson Taco Festival is coming April 28.
You might have heard about the wildly popular Arizona Taco Festival in Scottsdale? Well, now Tucson will have its own taco festival to brag about.  Think throw down in the grandest way, tequila tasting, cash prizes, hot pepper eating contest, and more!

47 Scott Street will be serving Saturday brunch starting January 28. Along with the regular menu, some creative scrambled eggs and other dishes will be added to the menu.  While I was a brunch bunny in L.A., I rarely eat brunch now. Where are your favorite places for brunch?  No, buffets, please…this boomer princess likes being served.

Speaking of 47 Scott Street, next door is a cozy little bar with the same name and a cozier little bar menu where you can walk in and tell the bartender what you like – vodka, gin, whiskey, sour or sweet, classic or anything goes, shaken or stirred and the merry mixologist will create a drink to your liking.  Or you can simply point at the menu and smile sublimely. This pearl of a place and some others led by members of the United Bartenders Guild are taking cocktails to new thrilling heights.

Cocktail making class – Classic cocktail making techniques – Check out this class on Feb. 18 – Learn from the best of bartenders.

RA Sushi has come up with the idea of the Skinny Cocktail. Now there’s an idea I like. Now possible to enjoy a night out with friends or happy hour with coworkers while still watching your waistline. Slenderized to feature less than 200 calories each, the Lychee-teenie, Skinny Ninja and Thin Ginger are so full of flavor, the extra calories won’t even be missed. Available through January and February, the new Skinny Cocktails can be found at RA Sushi at La Encantada.
