Tucson Pie Party Contest – May 1, 2011

I don’t know why but when I sit down to write about this crusty event, I start humming bye bye miss American pie, drove my Chevy to the levy but the levy was dry…

Every year a group of pie-loving people host this awesome event. Pretty soon, they will have to rent the Tucson Convention Center because this grassroots group which began in 2003 keeps growing by leaps and bounds. Pie has no boundaries.

Here’s the skinny:

When: 4 – 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 1

Where: Dunbar School Auditorium (325 W. 2nd St. at Main Ave.)

What:  Enter pies for judging. Win cool prizes. Eat pies – $3/slice or $5 for two slices and more…

Who: Funds raised will benefit a list of local charities.

How: Enter your pie/s. Must be homemade – will be judged in 4 categories — fruit, cream, other, and vegan

  • Tucson has many food festivals and competitions — margarita championship (limes are food), tamale festival, best salsa, chili contests, numerous throw-downs, world record for cheesesteak sandwich, etc.
  • Pie is the new cupcake.
  • Let there be pie!
