Each semester at The University of Toledo, our sorority, Alpha Chi Omega, holds a philanthropy dinner to raise money for the fight against domestic violence. This event is put together throughout the semester and we held it April 7th this semester from 10pm – 2 am. Each semester for our philanthropy, we have a Nacho Night where guests can purchase tickets $4 presale or $5 at the door to have unlimited nachos and drinks.
To decorate our sorority house where the event was held, we set up tables with purple tablecloths (the color of the fight against domestic violence). We also made purple ribbons for everyone to wear to show their support for our cause. Outside, we put up signs and bought luminaries to lead up to our house.
For the nachos, we cook seasoned beef, have nacho cheese and then put sour cream, salsa and jalapenos out on the tables for our guests to use. To cook and serve the nachos, we have our kitchen operation and then our wait staff. All of our sisters volunteer throughout the night to help put on such a wonderful event.
Last night, approximately 500 students showed up to the event and it was a HUGE success. We rose over $1000 for a local battered woman’s shelter and we will continue to take in donations until the end of the semester.
I am so proud once again for the wonderful ladies of my chapter putting on this event, and I can’t wait to make the event even bigger in the fall!
