Sales Networking Night

Each semester, The University of Toledo hosts a Sales Networking Night for College of Business students to not only improve their networking skills, but also to look for potential opportunities after graduation.

Although I am Finance and Marketing major, I was required to attend this event last night for my Sales Class. Since I had never been to this event before, I did not know what to except. I had been to Job Fairs at the University, but never a networking type event.

Dress was business professional so I put on my suit and went to the Union not knowing what to expect. When I walked in, it was a very nice function the university had set up. There were round tables for discussion with each company to learn more about their company and job opportunities. There were also senior sales students and professors to networking with as well. Not only could you pick your tables to attend, but also who you talked to.

Since the event was from 6 to 8pm, they had appetizers and drinks for everyone. I was honestly expecting a cheese tray and some vegetables because I didn’t think they would have anything fancy. Well, I was totally wrong. The University put together a wonderful array of appetizers including vegetables, fruit, bruschetta, steak bites, scallops, coconut chicken, chicken tenders, crab cakes, meatballs, egg rolls, and more. Although I only tried a few items because the purpose of my visit was not to be there to eat, it definitely was way more than expected.

I also tried to stay away from eating because although I know how to eat with proper etiquette in formal settings, I had too much to carry from table to table with my portfolio, packets from the companies and my drink… I think carrying food to each table on top of that would have been a bit much.
