The holidays are a wonderful time to get together with family and friends and have a nice relaxing break from everything. Everyone has special traditions during the holidays based on religious, family and other factors.
I am going to share with you some of my favorite family traditions and I hope you will comment to share some of your own favorites with your families.
1. Make christmas desserts with my mom
This has been a tradition in my family going on since I was little. My mom and I always get together and make desserts for our family, friends and neighbors. Although we have made christmas cookies in the past, we usually make the chocolate bark I mention in my other post. People usually love this because it is different from the dozens of christmas cookies people receive each year.
2. The package game
This tradition has been going on for years! It is one of my favorites things to do when getting together with our family and it is a lot of fun. To play, you have everyone bring packages (some good gifts and some gag gifts). Spread the packages all over the table and make sure to have 2 dice. Players take turns rolling the dice and if a 7 or an 11 is rolled, they may take a package (but not open it). If you roll doubles, you roll again. When all the packages are gone, the fun really begins. Then, a timer is set for 5 minutes and if someone rolls a 7 or 11 now, they can steal any package from anyone else. Now, at the end of this 5 minutes, everyone opens there packages and gets the gifts. It can get very intense, but it is a lot of fun. We have been doing this for years, and everytime we show a new family, they love it and incorporate it the following year.
3. X-mas Eve Party
Without fail, every year we go to a friend’s house for Christmas eve. It is not always the same family friend, but it is always a lot of fun. It is also very nice becausae it lets my mom relax on Christmas eve and gives her the freedom of not cooking for once. These parties are always fun and a great way to celebrate the holidays with our family and friends.
