On a hot day, there is nothing as delicious as an icy cold Diet Coke with a slice of lime.

Except I am seriously trying to stop drinking Diet Coke or any soda (or pop depending on what part of the country you’re from) for that matter. There’s something about the carbonation and caffeine buzz that excites me, more so, than say iced tea.

With that said, here are 10 seriously disturbing facts about soda.

Here’s a disturbing fact:  Hollins University found that 48% of sodas tested from the fast food fountains contain coliform bacteria, which is linked to fecal matter.

Thanks to Ashley M. Jones for sending the above article.

By further browsing I found another article where Coca Cola agreed to take carcinogenic benzene out of its product.

  1. I don’t drink much soda now, but I’ll be drinking even less after reading those 10 disturbing facts about soda. Yikes!

  2. This is another thing that, for me, falls in the “moderation” category. I don’t drink a lot of sodas, anyway, since I cannot have caffeine and hate the taste (and effects) of artificial sweeteners so the few times I have soda it’s usually a Sprite or Ginger Ale and mixed into something else.

I know what you mean, though, about nothing better–sometimes you just want that bubbly taste. Nothing wrong with the occasional treat 🙂
