Willcox Wine
Another wine tasting room opened in Willcox last week-Keeling-Schaefer Vineyards. Wine tasting used to be by appointment only at the Chiricahua Mountain foothills tasting room owned by Rod Keeling and Jan Schaefer. However, visitors will be able to sample their Three Sisters Syrah, Two Reds Grenache, Best Friends Chardonnay and Rock Creek Rosé at the vineyard’s new tasting room now open to the public. The Keeling-Schaefer Vineyards tasting room is in the former Willcox Bank and Trust Building, which was built in 1917. The wine library will be housed in what used to be the bank vault. Check it out at 154 N. Railroad Avenue (across from Railroad Park); Willcox, AZ; 520-824-2500.

California Pizza Kitchen is coming to Tucson. It’s a chain, one that I used to eat at when I lived in So. Calif. About seven or eight years ago, I was at the LA Food Show in Manhattan Beach and my friend knew the owners (also own CPK). I asked them when they were coming to Tucson. A glazed look when across his face. I said, “Tucson, Arizona.”  He asked how far Tucson was from Scottsdale. He said they go where PF Chang goes so I guess it’s taken them awhile. I used to crave their BBQ chicken pizza. According to this article, they are coming but when or where is unknown at this time.

  1. I love good pizza as much as the next person — though the BBQ chicken variety doesn’t sound very appealing to me. But the first two items you mention in this post are so much more interesting. The Desert Rain Cafe and new local wineries give southern Arizona character. A new chain pizza place — not so much. Wish I could make it out to Sells for the celebration. We’ll definitely have to head over to Willcox one of these days.
