New Location: Native Seeds/SEARCH
Native Seeds/SEARCH moved from 4th Avenue to the busy Campbell corridor/Tucson’s restaurant row, now at 3061 N. Campbell Ave., between Glenn and Ft. Lowell. Look for the bright orange building. Someone influential told me tonight but it’s not exactly a well known fact yet that there could be some cooking classes in the near future. FYI: the new location has plenty of parking. One of my friends carries around a little vial of NSS’ chipotle peppers which she adds to almost everything when we go out to dinner.

Lots of food and wine stuff happening this weekend in Tucson – March 6 & 7

Very Special Horse Event, Saturday, March 6
You don’t have to be a horse person to enjoy the Equine Voices Rescue & Sanctuary fundraiser. I have gone for the past two years and I’m a greyhound person. Oh, by the way, retired racing greyhounds will be there as well as the Humane Society, and the Animal Cruelty Task Force.  This year I’m a volunteer.

Along with meeting some very special horses, there is a huge silent auction; a live dessert auction with beautiful baked masterpieces from Tucson’s pastry chefs (last year a flan sold for $160!); demonstrations, stuff for sale for people and horses, live entertainment and more. It all happens at Brandi Fenton Park (River Road/N. Alvernon Way) from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Admission is $5/person and includes a raffle ticket. No pets please.  You won’t go hungry as food will be for sale from Zona 78, Keva Juice, Quesadilla & More, and Kettle Korn.

2010 Great Irish Cook-Off, Sunday, March 7
It’s your chance to taste and vote for best corned beef, Irish stew, soda bread and dessert at Maynards Market from  2 to 5 p.m. Admission is $10 per person. A no-host Guinness bar will be open during the event. Participants include Acacia, Cafe a la Carte, Frankie’s South Philly Cheesesteaks, Maynards, Cup Cafe and more. Bring the whole family for an afternoon of fun and watch Maynards defend its Stew title.

Casa del los Gatos Benefit “Heart and Soul” Sunday, March 7
This Sunday CataVinos Wine Shoppe hosts the no-kill rescue shelter benefit for Casa del los Gatos. Wines will be poured from 4 to 6 p.m.  Meet other cat lovers and sip great wines. Cost is $20 with $10 going towards the cats. Meow.
