Candy Made from Saltine Crackers – Toffee Treats

TOFFEE TREATS

  • 40 SALTINE CRACKERS
  • 1 CUP BUTTER
  • 1 CUP LIGHT BROWN SUGAR
  • 12 OZ. MINI CHOCOLATE CHIPS
  • 1 CUP NUTS CHOPPED

Line saltines up on a cookie sheet that has been lined with aluminum foil.
There should be 5 rows of 8 crackers.
Melt butter and add brown sugar.
Stir often and bring to a full rolling boil for EXACTLY 3 minutes.
Pour over saltines and bake at 400 degrees for 5 minutes.
Take out of oven.
Sprinkle with mini chocolate chips – when almost melted spread (with spatula) over saltines.
Sprinkle nuts on top.
Refrigerate for 2 hours.
Break into pieces or cut.

  1. That sounds easy enough. My friend’s mom Bettian made a similar dessert with matzo (matzo = unleavened bread similar to a cracker) and this dessert was delicious.

    I may have to make this for the next “beading bee”.

  2. My recipe varies slightly from this, but in my family this IS called “Tree Bark” has been for 20+ years!! It is always a HUGE hit with family and friends. They look for it every year and I’m always asked for the recipe.
