Philanthropy with Phlavor
During the month of October, every time you dine at Pastiche, order takeout food, make a purchase at the Pastiche Wine Shop, or buy Pastiche gift certificates, you can choose one of 40 nonprofit organizations to receive 5% of your check amount (less tax & gratuity). Now that’s a delicious thought at 3025 N. Campbell Ave; 325-3333. Please consider Arizona Greyhound Rescue as your recipient. AGR rescues retired racing greyhounds from the Tucson dog track.

Oct. 17 & 18-Food & Wine Festival
Wow! Another food & wine festival happens next week at Rillito Raceway Park. The Southern Arizona Arts & Cultural Alliance (SAACA) presents more than 200 food, art, wine, beer, and everything culinary arts.   The two-day event will feature a children’s culinary and art activities pavilion plus cooking demonstrations from southern Arizona’s accomplished chefs and live music on the main stage. Admission is $5/person.

That Lamb Stew!
If you went to last week’s Reserve Tasting at the Tucson Culinary Festival, you probably ate Feast’s lamb stew. It was a winner. Anyway, it’s on Doug Levy’s menu and should not be missed as it goes with the cooler weather. The menu’s description: Lamb Stew~ slow-cooked lamb with tomatoes, fresh spinach and arugula, garnished with butternut squash jam; may be prepared gluten free.

Margarita Magnet – Belated congratulations to Brian Metzger, chef/owner of jaxKitchen who won not one but two awards (people’s choice and professional judges’ esteem) at the Tucson Culinary Festival’s margarita championship 2009.

Kitchen Confidential
The tell-all of what goes on in the restaurant business has become a top dollar book genre. Feel like spilling the beans on stage as an amuse bouche? If you do, Odyssey Storytelling wants to hear from you. The next storytelling event happens December 3 and will feature stories about food and restaurants. Heck, if you worked in a catering truck, tell all. (P.S. I told a story on the Odyssey stage once and it was a real high. My topic: interspecies communications.)
