Restrict Feeding Antibiotics to Cows and Pigs

Wow! This is a first. A Congresswoman has a hearing of why antibiotics fed to livestock is bad for humans. That never would’ve happened during the Bush administration.

Kudos to Congresswoman Slaughter (D-NY) for getting the agenda heard.

Amazingly, the American Medical Association supports her, but of course, the Pork Council and the farmers do not.  Farmers want the easy way out and giving antibiotics to their healthy chickens and livestock makes them grow faster and prevents illness.

According to a previous New York Times op-ed, when pigs are over-dosed with a cocktail of antibiotics, difficult to treat strains of MRSA infection affect the public.
