Philanthropy with Phlavor
In the worst of times, the best of Tucson’s independent restaurants continue to be on their best altruistic behavior. Once again Pastiche Modern Eatery will permit diners to donate 5 percent of their checks to the charity of their choice. Charities receive gift cards which they can use for raffles, silent auctions, and volunteer appreciation. Philanthropy with Phlavor happens the entire month of June so don’t forget to go and go often. Please consider eating for my favorite charity.
Summer Cooking Classes
Fox Restaurant Concepts hosts demonstration cooking classes starting Saturday June 13 at Wildflower from noon to 2:30 featuring a 3-course meal of summer ingredients including a burrata salad, halibut with sweet corn cauliflower puree, and Karen “Spike” Ames’ strawberry shortcake and strawberry rhubarb crisp plus two glasses of wine selected by sommelier Regan Jasper. The cost is $45/person.
On Sunday June 21, a similarly-styled class will be held on the eastside at Montana Avenue, same time, same price with a menu focused on summer harvest.
Two restaurants recently closed in the Foothills Mall. They are one of two locations for El Paso Barbeque (the other location is Broadway/Craycroft) and Gavi’s Italian Restaurant. Gavi’s other restaurants are not affected.
