BroFest is a remembrance of sorts for the Mack brothers. Mikey, age 16, was out go-carting with friends when a bad guy driving a stolen motorcycle ran over him. Less than a year later, brother Danny, 20, was on his way to Mexico when the vehicle he was riding in flipped over. Two sons dead from unspeakable tragedies.
Friends of the Mack family have come together to honor the Mack brothers by building a walking track (the Mack Track) around the school in their memory. The boys went to Walter Douglas School in the Flowing Wells School District. Their mom, Libby, still teaches first grade there.
Last year BroFest 2008 raised $16,000 toward the walking track project.
This year BroFest 2009 hopes to raise more, so c’mon down and celebrate the Mack brothers lives with live music provided by Roadhouse, plates of food for $5, the brothers’ favorite oatmeal cookies, silent auction, and tons of raffle prizes ($2 each or 3 for $5), cool stuff to buys like memento t-shirts and tote bags and beaded hanging ornaments. For the kids, there’s face painting, choo-choo trolley, jumping castle, bean bag toss, and a fish pond.
Arizona Daily Star cartoonist, Dave Fitzsimmons makes an appearance at 1 p.m.
It all happens Sunday, April 19 from noon to 4 p.m. at Jacobs Park, Ramada #1 (on Fairview at 1010 W. Lind St. between Miracle Mile & Prince Road)
The public is invited.
