Where Local and Global Appetites Collide

Healthy Food: Going Nuts for Almond Butter

Last week I treated myself to a jar of almond butter. It’s more than twice as expensive as peanut butter but oh so much better.

I have been known to eat chocolate syrup with a spoon and ditto for nut butters…they are that tempting.

So far I’ve been eating almond butter and sliced apple sandwiches on multi grain bread for lunch. Nirvana. Someone suggested drizzling honey over the apples but I don’t need to go there as it already feels like a rich treat.

I am wondering just how healthy almond butter and almonds are.

Hmmm, as far as nuts go, almonds provide manganese, vitamin E, magnesium, and potassium.

Almonds are high in monounsaturated fats, the same type of health-promoting fats as are found in olive oil, which have been associated with reduced risk of heart disease.

Almonds have a low glycemic load and do not elevate blood sugar.

So go nuts (in moderation of course) for almonds.
