Where Local and Global Appetites Collide

Election Day Dining

I should’ve thought about this earlier but I’ve been too busy…campaigning.

There’s still time to call up some friends and fellow voters and have a party on the fly.

If Obama is your candidate — consider ordering Chicago-style deep dish pizza since Obama is from Chicago. You might ask to add pineapple on top to honor his grandmother Toot and his Hawaiian background.

Or you can take some pineapple juice and mix it with rum, shaking things up a bit, not stirred.

Chicago is also known for its hot dogs and this looks like something you can do last minute. Check out these Chicago style ideas for inspiration.

As a nod to Joe Biden, who’s from Delaware…hmm, what do they eat in Delaware? I just browsed my Zagat Restaurant Guide for America’s top restaurants for 2009 and nothing special was listed for Delaware; oddly it’s not recognized as a state with even one good restaurant. Poor Joe. More browsing around online and I see that Delaware is known for grilled seafood.

Many grocery stores have shrimp cocktail platters, grab one.

As for McCain, hunker down with a pitcher of prickly pear margaritas. Prickly pear is fruit of the cactus. Probably if you’re not in Arizona you won’t be able to find any prickly pear syrup. So just drink the tequila straight. Arizona borders on Mexico where tequila is made — close enough. Tequila is made in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. You might also consider Mexican food. Since Arizona is a border state.

And for dessert, there’s always Miss baked Alaska.

Don’t forget to vote!
