Halloween Recipe: Chocolate Jack-o-Lanterns

Thank you to Athens Foods for sharing this sophisticated recipe.

Don’t trick your Halloween party guests. Rather, treat them with a flaky Mini Fillo Shell filled with a blend of vanilla yogurt, cream cheese, fresh orange juice and a zested and minced orange peel.

Chocolate Jack-o-Lanterns

2 ounces chopped milk chocolate
15 Athens® Mini Fillo Shells (1 box)
4 tablespoons softened cream cheese
1 tablespoon slightly warmed honey
1 tablespoon zested and minced orange peel
2 tablespoons fresh orange juice
1/4 cup vanilla flavored yogurt
1/4 cup chilled whipping cream
Chocolate curls and orange peel strips, for garnish

In a small glass dish, melt the milk chocolate in the microwave until smooth. Coat the outside of each Fillo Shell by dipping in melted chocolate. Place in refrigerator to firm up chocolate.

In a small mixing bowl, beat together cream cheese, honey, orange peel, orange juice and yogurt until very smooth. In a separate bowl, beat whipping cream until firm peaks form. Fold whipped cream into creamed mixture. Spoon 1 heaping tablespoon of filling into each coated Fillo Shell. Garnish with a chocolate curl and a bit of orange peel. Serve immediately.

Yield: 15 Desserts

I would serve the individual chocolate jack-o-lanterns for dessert and decorate the table with lots of candy. Munchies such as a bowl of shrimp on ice with cocktail sauce and grilled chicken vegetable kebabs or fried chicken drumsticks (which is really sauteed/baked) or meatballs and crudite.

Some protein snacks and vegetables and maybe a spicy bean dip and or deviled eggs offer finger food extraordinaire. Then suprise your guests with this beautiful rich dessert surrounded by candy.  Serve with punch or a champagne punch for adults.
