Free Rice – End World Hunger – Play Vocabulary Game

Here is a really cool word game called Free Rice (better than flash cards) that for every time you guess the answer correctly 20 grains of rice are donated to help feed and end world hunger. Apparently, the rice is paid for by the advertisers at the bottom of the vocabulary screen.

The program began October 7, 2007 and already it has donated over 4 billion grains of rice to end world hunger. The website does not make any profit.

Yeah, I was skeptical to but I looked it up at snopes.com — the ultimate in busting urban myths and they (as always) provide background on the how and why this is happening. Check it out.

  1. Pretty neat! It is quite motivating to see those little rice kernals build up. I did better than I expected. Who knew that “curmudgeon” would come in handy some day.

  2. I have manged to donote 100,000 of rice yesterday. My hope
is that everyone will have goals like this to help people who are starving. I have been doing this for sometime and I have estimaited to have donoted around 250,000 grains of rice or a quarter of a million.
