Grilled, Barbecue Pizza – With Cardonnay, Pinot Noir Pairing

Another Friday is upon us which means yet another week gone by! So much to do so little time, but this weekend make some time for cooking up something unique and tasty for the crowd.

I have given you a recipe for a pizza that you grill on the bar-b-q… yes you heard it right. You actually heat the pre-made dough on the grill for that charred flavor that comes from outdoor cooking. Top it with fresh ingredients like arugula and avocado, throw on some goat cheese and tomatoes and you’ve got a meal that’s so easy and good that you want to keep your grill up and running all year long.

This dish is very versatile, add corn, hearts of palm , even a few grilled shrimp would make this a great meal to enjoy eating in the warm summer sun. Be creative with what you choose to put on top, the possibilities are endless, and the fresher the better. go to your local farmers market and be inspired by veggies that are in season right now, and enjoy this light yet satisfying dish.

To pair with this grilled pizza i have given you both a white and a red wine option. The white is a Chardonnay, now you should choose a sweeter versus a drier or oaky option here because of the tangy cheese and the pepperiness of the arugula. The red, a Pinot Noir pairs nicely with this dish as it has “sweeter” fruit notes like black cherry and raspberry that will do well with the tart goat cheese. If you choose to put shrimp on this, i would stay with the white wine option, otherwise, either will work.

And so grilled pizza it is this weekend. Do something fun, ride a bike go for a hike, read a book, do things that you normally don’t do during the week, and don’t forget to cook. And as always Happy Cooking! Katherine
