Where Local and Global Appetites Collide

Coffee – The Simplest Form of Hospitality

Trendy hair salon treats its customers right by serving them coffee. If you think that a simple gesture, such as serving coffee to a guest, goes unappreciated or is taken for granted, then think again.  It set the stage for making a big impression on me.

I’d been having a bad hair week and, on the spur-of-the-moment, dropped by a trendy hair salon, called Square One in Dayton Ohio, to see if they could fit me in.

After asking me if they could take my coat, they inquired whether I would like a cup of coffee.

Let me tell you, I was impressed.  The experience only got better.  The coffee was presented in a sleek black mug with a handle that fit me like a glove.  I was expecting a styrofoam cup.  Believe me, it tasted great!

The rest of the details are not food-related, but I’d like to share them with you only to paint the complete picture of a wonderful experience I will not soon forget.  After they washed my hair, they wrapped my head in a hot wet towel infused with a wonderful aromatherapy scent.  I got a great cut followed by a complimentary make-up touch-up.

The coffee set the tone for the rest of the experience.  I have no intention to go back to my previous hair stylist because she, nor her salon, couldn’t come close to the “event” that I had just enjoyed.  I felt like a queen and now I’m hooked.
